After receiving an ominous invitation, Kat arrives at a seemingly empty motel off the highway. She doesn’t know who or what she will find in the dark of room 13, her demise, or her wildest dreams, but there is only one way to find out.

This film is a love letter to the queer subtext of eighties horror. From the terrifying “other” that we see ourselves in, to the culture of meeting away from the public’s gaze– this short gets at the humor, terror, and erotics of queer culture and how that was interpreted through period works.

Lone Buck Motel was created for my junior film class as part of my education at Pacific Northwest College of Art. With a total production time of four months, there was a limited amount of time to create a project of this scale. However, the time crunch lent this film a sense of finality and compactness that has stuck with audiences for its risque humor, original production, and short run time.
